One of Turkey’s prominent mountaineers and rafting enthusiasts, Besi worked around the world as construction worker, street vendor, and rafting guide. He served as an instructor at the Turkish Mountaineering Federation and was instrumental in the establishment of the Rafting Federation as the Founding Vice-President. In 1997 he started working at DSM Group in Istanbul and managed projects for BMW, VW, Fiat, L’Oréal, and Red Bull.
In 2008, he married Akgonca Besi and together they escaped from the big city İstanbul-Cannes and settled in Muğla. In 2010, they toured South America and decided to brew craft beer which was a long dream for them.
Ataç Besi lives in Pisi Village of Muğla with his wife, two children; Mercan (6) and Kiraz (3) with several dogs, cats, chickens and continues to produce craft beer.
On 2007 the idea of setting up a microbrewery with his brother George was born and on the summer of 2009 they launched their first beers. In the last seven years, Septem beers have been awarded more than 25 times in different brewing competitions. On 2015 Septem won the trophy of “Best Brewer in Europe” in the International Beer challenge in London. From 2016 is a vice-president in the Hellenic Brewers Association.
His professional career in brewery started in 2006 as brewer assistant and responsible for the operation of brewhouse or filter in Hellenic Microbreweries S.A. He quickly stepped in as a Brewmaster in Grinox Ltd offering his expertise in Counselling in the design and manufacture of breweries, personnel training and consulting in the breweries that company constructed.
Orestis Stefanou is the founder and owner of the Solar Microbrewery of Xanthi in Northern Greece. With a Bachelor degree in Greek Literature and a Masters in Applied Linguistics, he was far from expected to be dedicating himself to brewing. His passion for beer however, led him to experiment as a homebrewer. His deep knowledge and love for chemistry alongside countless hours studying the art of brewing, enabled him to brew samples of high quality beers. The foundation of his microbrewery in Xanthi in 2016 was the natural progression. Inspired by the Zero Emissions Research and Initiatives Project, he is proud to have founded the first brewery in Europe which uses solar energy for its production.
Working as a researcher and later as an inspector of cultivations, it was easy to become an analyst at the quality department for canned fruits and aseptic fruit packages and later on a researcher and technical support specialist for dry nuts and confectionery products.
Her work proves she is more than capable to develop new products, improve existing ones and assure the best quality achieved.
He is a graduate of National Technical University of Athens, and he has almost twenty years of experience in industry as a Maintenance, Production and Plant Manager. Brewing gained his interest the last decade first as a homebrewer and later as a professional brewer.
Among other things, George, is importing various beers from around the world and is organizing a lot of events in the city like the “Oktobeer Thess”, the “Christmas Hops Beer festival”, tap takeovers and other.
This days he is planning to start a new effort abroad.
