"Berlin Beer Week" Organizer
Dirk Hoplitschek is a self-educated beer expert. While still a student, he founded the German online beer rating community www.bier-index.de with two like-minded friends, and has since slipped ever deeper into the beer world: He works in sales for Bierlinie GmbH, a Berlin-based importer of Belgian beers and beverage wholesaler, covers beer topics for Mixology Magazine and is one of the authors of Cocktailian III: Beer & Craft Beer. He has hosted panel discussions and stage shows at Bar Convent Berlin and Braukunst Live! in Munich as well as a multitude of food pairings, tastings and other beer-related events. In 2015, he became one of three co-founders of the annual Berlin Beer Week, the only non-centralized beer festival in Germany at present time.

Born in Switzerland in 1973, Austrian-German Helmut Adam is a publisher, trade show organizer, drinks writer, speaker, beverage consultant, beer enthusiast, and bartender living in Berlin. He is co-founder and publisher of the German print and online publication Mixology Magazine (since 2003) and has contributed to numerous international trade publications such as Imbibe (UK), Drinks International (UK) or Drink (China). Co-founder and communications manager of premier international bar and beverage trade show Bar Convent Berlin (BCB). Co-founder and communications manager of Brew Berlin, the fast-growing beer segment of Bar Convent Berlin. Co-author and publisher of the successful cocktails and beverage book series Cocktailian. Ataç Besi
Gara Guzu Brewery Co-Founder & Brewer
Curiosity and an appetite for adventure have always shaped Ataç Besi’s life. He was born at the Muğla province of Turkey at which he brews Gara Guzu beers, Turkey’s first craft beers other then brewpubs.

One of Turkey’s prominent mountaineers and rafting enthusiasts, Besi worked around the world as construction worker, street vendor, and rafting guide. He served as an instructor at the Turkish Mountaineering Federation and was instrumental in the establishment of the Rafting Federation as the Founding Vice-President. In 1997 he started working at DSM Group in Istanbul and managed projects for BMW, VW, Fiat, L’Oréal, and Red Bull.

In 2008, he married Akgonca Besi and together they escaped from the big city İstanbul-Cannes and settled in Muğla. In 2010, they toured South America and decided to brew craft beer which was a long dream for them.

Ataç Besi lives in Pisi Village of Muğla with his wife, two children; Mercan (6) and Kiraz (3)  with several dogs, cats, chickens and continues to produce craft beer.

Sofoklis Panagiotou
Septem Microbrewery Co-Owner & Brewer
Sofoklis Panagiotou is the co-founder and brewer of Septem Microbrewery, which is based on the island of Evia in Greece. He has a bachelor degree in Chemistry from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and a Master of Science in Oenology and Viticulture from the University of Torino in Italy. He has published papers regarding the distillation behavior of primary aroma of Greek grape distillates and he has presented researches in various conventions. He worked from 1999 to 2012 as a Winemaker and Production Manager in several wineries in Crete, Peloponnese and Central Greece.

On 2007 the idea of setting up a microbrewery with his brother George was born and on the summer of 2009 they launched their first beers. In the last seven years, Septem beers have been awarded more than 25 times in different brewing competitions. On 2015 Septem won the trophy of “Best Brewer in Europe” in the International Beer challenge in London. From 2016 is a vice-president in the Hellenic Brewers Association.

Konstantinos Agouridas
Brewer
Konstantinos is an experienced brewer from Greece. He currently works at Olympic Brewery in Ritsona as Brewing & Procession Manager. He studied Agriculture at the Technological Educational Institute of Western Macedonia and focused on his brewing studies, visiting the University of Sunderland in 2008, obtaining diploma in brewing and certificate in practical brewing.

His professional career in brewery started in 2006 as brewer assistant and responsible for the operation of brewhouse or filter in Hellenic Microbreweries S.A. He quickly stepped in as a Brewmaster in Grinox Ltd offering his expertise in Counselling in the design and manufacture of breweries, personnel training and consulting in the breweries that company constructed.

Christos Dimtsoudis
Macedonian Thrace Brewery Chief Executive Officer
Christos Dimtsoudis is the Chief Executive Officer of Macedonian Thrace Brewery S.A., the producer of Vergina beer and Thracian Malt. He holds an Engineering Degree in Brewing and Beverage Technology from the University of Munich – Weihenstephan. Since 1997 he has been the Head of Production & Brewmaster of Macedonia Thrace Brewery SA. Christos has also taught a course in micro-brewing at the American Farm School of Thessaloniki from 2011.
Vergina Weiss has won the silver medal in the International Brewing Awards in London in 2013 and the Bronze European Beer Star Award 2014.

Orestis Stefanou
Solar Microbrewery Owner & Brewer

Orestis Stefanou is the founder and owner of the Solar Microbrewery of Xanthi in Northern Greece. With a Bachelor degree in Greek Literature and a Masters in Applied Linguistics, he was far from expected to be dedicating himself to brewing. His passion for beer however, led him to experiment as a homebrewer. His deep knowledge and love for chemistry alongside countless hours studying the art of brewing, enabled him to brew samples of high quality beers. The foundation of his microbrewery in Xanthi in 2016 was the natural progression. Inspired by the Zero Emissions Research and Initiatives Project, he is proud to have founded the first brewery in Europe which uses solar energy for its production.

Lina Domvrou
Thessaloniki Microbrewery Owner
Lina Domvrou is the owner and active executive of Thessaloniki Microbrewery Ltd. She has a degree in agriculture, food science and technology from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and expanded her knowledge in Process and Product Design in Wageningen University in the Netherlands.

Working as a researcher and later as an inspector of cultivations, it was easy to become an analyst at the quality department for canned fruits and aseptic fruit packages and later on a researcher and technical support specialist for dry nuts and confectionery products.

Her work proves she is more than capable to develop new products, improve existing ones and assure the best quality achieved.

Ioannis Riganezis
Microbrewery of Thessaly Owner
Yannis Riganezis is the owner of Microbrewery of Thessaly in Volos, which produces Argo Beer and Molotov IPA. The microbrewery is also known as Volos Beer.

He is a graduate of National Technical University of Athens, and he has almost twenty years of experience in industry as a Maintenance, Production and Plant Manager. Brewing gained his interest the last decade first as a homebrewer and later as a professional brewer.

Hoppy Pub Owner
Bartender since 1995 and owner of various pubs in Thessaloniki the last 14 years. His latest “child” the “Hoppy Pub” is operating three years and every year it is awarded as the Best Beer Bar from Ratebeer.com. This year it is among the 50 best beer destinations of the world, on the 6th place, which is an unprecedented distinction for a pub of Greece.

Among other things, George, is importing various beers from around the world and is organizing a lot of events in the city like the “Oktobeer Thess”, the “Christmas Hops Beer festival”, tap takeovers and other.

This days he is planning to start a new effort abroad.
